Allowing your antivirus subscription to lapse leaves your computer entirely vulnerable to zero-day security threats, malware, and identity theft. Keeping your security shield updated is easy.
Whether you want to keep using your current billing card or apply a cheap renewal key you found at a retail store, here is how to renew your Norton protection.
Method 1: Renewing Online via the Account Dashboard
If you want to quickly extend your existing protection using your credit card, debit card, or PayPal account, use this method:
- Head over to my.norton.com and log in with your credentials.
- Click on the Profiles / Subscriptions section or tap your profile avatar icon in the upper right-hand corner and select My Subscriptions.
- Review your listed active products. Locate the subscription that is expiring and click the prominent orange Renew Now button next to it.
- Review your billing parameters, choose your preferred payment pipeline, and confirm the checkout. Your expiration date will instantly update across all your synchronized computers and smartphones.
Method 2: Renewing Using a Retail Product Key
If you purchased a physical activation card or a cheaper digital renewal code from a third-party retail vendor (like Amazon or Best Buy), you don’t need to purchase anything directly from the dashboard.
- Launch your installed Norton application on your desktop screen.
- Look at the bottom menu row of the user interface. Click the link titled Help or Renew.
- Select the option that reads Enter Product Key.
- Type your fresh 25-character alphanumeric key carefully into the input block.
- Example format:
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
- Example format:
- Click Next and wait a moment for Norton’s authentication servers to validate the code. The status panel on your app will switch back to a solid green color reading “You Are Protected.”
Important Tip: Managing Automatic Renewal Settings
By default, Microsoft and Norton enroll users in an automated yearly billing pipeline. If you prefer to manually buy renewal keys yourself each year to hunt for cheaper discounts, you can toggle this off:
- In your My Subscriptions tab online, look for the Automatic Renewal toggle switch right next to your active license.
- Flip the switch to OFF, confirm your choice through the warning prompts, and you will no longer be billed automatically.
